The National Venture Capital Association is the national trade organization for the venture capital industry.  The NVCA represents the interests of the venture capital firm and, logically then, their resources are best suited for member firms.  For the entrepreneur, the NVCA is of limited use.  There is a short list of referrals for different types of services that are frequently employed and recommended by member firms, which in the absence of a personal referral might be a good starting place for entrepreneurs looking for services from firms experienced with the private equity industry.  The NVCA also produces an online database (also available in print form) of detailed information on all of its members, a list which might help cold-calling entrepreneurs looking for funding.  The list is not inexpensive however and is almost certainly not worth the price.
